Experience the Power of
'Grief, Glory and the Soldier'

"Inspired by folklore and Arthurian legend, a soldier on the edge of death stumbles into a forest, confronted by spirits of war. Succumb to Grief of what he has lost, or bask in the selfish Glory of battle? The choice is his, but will he take it?"

Arctic Dance Productions invites you to discover the essence of 'Grief, Glory and the Soldier', a poignant dance piece that delves deep into the emotional journey of a soldiers mind.

Torn between Fighting for victory (Glory) and fighting for loss (Grief), we explored a narrative approach to contemporary dance. Through a collaboration with Wimbledon Collage of arts we took a deep dive into Arthurian Folklore which helped to develop the concept and themes created for this piece.

Inspiration

Our Production Designer for this project, Caelen, Came into our first official collaborator meeting with some wonderful ideas that we immediately began to explore. We looked into incorporating nature with the ideologies of "LARP" and so came the first few themes to look into.

Our Composer, Abi, Began to draft ideas for musical instruments that would suit the ideas at the time, including many woodwind instruments. within the first 2 weeks of our production process, we had a solid base structure for the piece.

Next came the Choreography, Myself and my 2 Dancer began exploring movement motifs to utilise through the piece. Part of my own journey through choreo is utilising lighting techniques to influence movement styles. We decided to utilize this as part of the piece to create a symbolism for entering a state of "in between" for the narrative.

The Final Product

The final product was better than we could have ever anticipated, we recieved fantastic reviews from our audience for it and it became an integral part of our portfolios. The composition had the perfect balance of creativity whilst keeping to our nature and dramatised themes. The Costume had the perfect blend of Druidic stylistics and character development. and the choreography was neatly crafted to portray all emotions and narration.

Myself and my team are incredibly grateful for this opportunity.
