"Lucid - A dreaming state, controllable by the dreamer. Often used to portray past memories whether good or bad and can be created to show your wants and desires in life no matter how unrealistic they may seem"
At Arctic Dance Productions, we invite you to discover the concept behind our latest masterpiece, 'Lucid'. This extraordinary dance piece immerses audiences in the ethereal realm of dreams, exploring the delicate interplay between the conscious and subconscious mind.
As performers take to the stage, they unravel the complexities of lucid dreaming and the haunting shadows of nightmares, transforming these abstract concepts into a vivid and dynamic choreography. Through innovative movements and intricate partnerships, 'Lucid' mesmerizes viewers while inviting them to reflect upon their own experiences of reality and dreams.
This section delves deeper into the artistic vision that guided our creative process, illuminating the profound themes of consciousness and the surreal nature of dream-like experiences that manifest throughout the performance.
The idea and concept for the piece came gradually over time, as an ever changing piece. it started out as an exploration into the dream state that we all know and slowly began to expand, incorporating nightmares and self control as themes.
The character design was simple yet effective. The piece had 4 dancers in total, 3 of which were emphasized as "the dream state" all in simple black costumes moving in near unison whilst the 4th dancer dressed in pajamas. The pajama design again was simple however created the perfect character arch as "the dreamer"
Only 1 prop was used which was a simple dimmable lamp to be used as a representation of entering and exiting the dream state. All of these simple yet effective designs all came together to create a stunning visualisation of how a dreamer is able to control both their dreams and their nightmares.
The audience reaction to the piece was fantastic and the overall outcome of the piece was fantastic.
My wonderful dancers worked incredibly hard on this piece allowing it to be the natural beauty that it came out to be. some audience members that i spoke to after the show felt inspired and reflected with the piece on a personal level due to the nature and overall concept.
